Alpe d'Huez |
 |
Alpe d'Huez has developed since 1936 at an altitude of 1860 metres on the southern side of the Grandes Rousses Massif. The winter sports resort enjoys its own micro-climate, with long hours of sunshine, hence its name, 'the Island in the sun’. Its ski area is linked with the village resorts of Auris-en-Oisans, Huez-en-Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas.At an altitude of 3300 metres, the Pic Blanc offers an imposing panorama (3-star rating in the Michelin guide) over the Ecrins National Park and its prestigious summits of the Meije, the Muzelle, the Aiguilles d’Arves, the Mont Blanc, …this landscape covers almost 1/5th of French territory, from Italy to the Massif Central. The high altitude guarantees good snow coverage of the 10,000 hectares of ski area, with 248 kms of ski runs for all levels over a vertical drop of 2230 metres and 800 skiable hectares. 785 snow canons make it possible to ski all the way back to Alpe d'Huez and the resort villages. 785 snow canons make it possible to ski all the way back to Alpe d'Huez and the resort villages. Thanks to runs such as the Sarenne (the longest run in the world at 16 kms, starting from the top of the Sarenne glacier), La Fare and the Château Noir, … you can ski for nearly 1 1/2 hours without using ski lifts, thanks to the seamless network of lifts for long term snowsports enjoyment. |
